WeekEnd Pack Holiday

The Week End Pack Holiday started on time in bright sunshine. Prior to the Cubs arriving the TESCO van had eventually found their way to the site  to off-load mountains of food. Then, with the hall set up and the Leaders tensed, the Cubs started to arrive just before Six. They quickly picked rooms with their friends with the early arrivees bagging the prime upper bunk-bed places (the Cubs never realised before they came that they would be sleeping on very comfortable bunk beds).

Once the Mums and Dads left (some very reluctantly), a dinner of Sausages, Chips and Beans was served followed by Rice Pudding for dessert. Then the shock part hit some of them as they were expected to and did help with the washing-up  ( I also helped wash-up and could not believe how many pots, pans, dishes and plates went into one simple meal –  have dish-pan hands now) . Then everone went for a quick look outside in the field for wild life but the noise and the pelethora of torch lights probably scared every living animal for miles around.

Once back in the building they washed and paraded around in all sorts of “Onesies” clutching a similarily wide variety of teddy bears and cuddly animals. Hot Chocolate , biscuits then bed. Why ever did Bill Shakespere said “to sleep perchance to dream …” . He never tried the impossible task of trying to get 21 cubs not only to sleep but to just stay in their beds.

While this went on the Leaders tried to cover a large egg shape in sticky paper (it was an old Christmas tree covered in chicken wire)  as a project for the week end ( I thought it was really so Angela could stop the pines from her old Christmas tree from falling by covering the tree in paper).

Sleep eventually came to all at the Pack Holiday though it will be an early start tomorrow (no later than 5:00 AM if this camp goes as past ones did) –  need to sleep myself now.
