We’ve done the double! Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold and Silver awards!

Last Wednesday, Graham and Emily Gissing, two of Denmead Explorer Scouts were presented with their Gold and Silver DofE awards by Adam Jollans our Hampshire County Commissioner. This must be a first for Denmead and maybe Hampshire – brother and sister gaining DofE awards at the same time!

Also on hand to make sure the event proceeded to plan were Richard Merefield, our District Commissioner, Angela Harwood, Denmead Group Scout Leader and Alan Harwood, Explorer Scout Leader. Guests of honour were Don and Daphne Gissing – the proud parents and Carolyn and Mark Hargreaves who were the Explorer Leader and DofE Advisor at the time Graham and Emily undertook their challenges.

We took over the Concorde Cub meeting that night for a few minutes and the Cubs were able to see the presentations. They were doing a cook-out so with tea and biscuits afterwards, we were treated to chocolate bananas from the BBQ! Here are some photos from the evening. Also we invested James Pragnell into Explorers and his mum and dad were there to see him move up.
