The Executive Committee is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Scout Group from an administration point-of-view. It consists of elected officers from the Group AGM – Chairman, Treasurer, Group Scout Leader as a minimum but includes all Leaders and members elected at the AGM. It meets monthly to manage Group finances and all the tasks necessary to maintain the HQ and a healthy Scout Group. AGM minutes are published on this site. See the additional pages of: Meeting minutes and Maintenance.

Fundraising and Community Events

The Group’s main fundraising comes from the Annual Dinosaur Derby, but we do run various other fundraising activities.

Easyfundraising is a website that links you through to on-line shopping sites. Each time you make a purchase the group gets a percentage of what you spend. For example if you are booking a holiday on-line through Expedia, you log into Easyfundraising using the Denmead link, select Expedia and continue as normal. When you have bought your holiday we then get a donation of about 1.5% of the cost. It may not seem much but  if you spend £500 that’s £7.50 for free! Please give it a go.

Easysearch is a search engine like Google but has the advantage that EVERY search raises money for us! Use it for all your searches.

Mobile phone recycling: We do this on and ongoing basis. The phones don’t need to be working and we don’t need the charger. We can get up to £30 for some phones, so if you’ve got phones sitting in a drawer doing nothing then please bring them to the HQ.

Community Events

Denmead Scout Group is very involved in the local community. We run an outdoor carol singing event each year on the Friday before Christmas. Denmead Brass provide the music, we provide the song sheets, hot chestnuts, mulled wine & hot chocolate and a festive atmosphere. We make a collection for Langstone Sailability, a charity providing sailing for the disabled.

On the Sunday before Christmas each year we pull Santa around the village on his sleigh, accompanied by Scouts, Leaders & parents dressed as elves. Money collected on this goes to a different local charity each year.

Fireworks: We hold a free firework display at the HQ each year on 5th November. This a a really good display, usually lasting about 30 minutes. A BBQ and refreshments are sold to help cover the cost of the fireworks.
